Runaway Teen Couple From Farmington Hills Found

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - Two teenage lovebirds who ran away from Farmington Hills were found safe Wednesday morning in a Macomb County Meijer.

Farmington Hills Police  had asked for the public to be on the lookout for 14-year-old Cora Kirkland and her boyfriend, 15-year-old Dakota Kozak, who disappeared at around noon Monday from Mobile Manor Trailer Park on 8 Mile Road, between Middlebelt and Orchard Lake Roads.

The Farmington Hills Police Department announced Wednesday morning that — with the assistance of the Chesterfield Township Police Department and the Macomb County Sheriff's Office  — they'd  located the young couple.

Cora's mother, Jennifer Kirkland, said they pair had been sleeping in a tent in the woods.

She told reporters her daughter's disappearance was "a nightmare." She said the two had been dating for about two months, she'd never told Cora not to see Dakota, and didn't know why they would run away.

Wednesday afternoon, Jennifer told WWJ's Russ McNamara it turned her daughter had wanted to help her boyfriend through a tough time.

"[I told her] above anything, if anything like that ever arises again, come to mom and dad, let us know. Maybe we can help," she said. "...Running away isn't always the answer, and we're glad that, you know, she used her heart and was trying to help; but, at the same time, now you can look back and see how scary it is."

The teens were unharmed.

No charges have been filed in connection with the couple's disappearance.
