Royal Oak City Hall Reopens After Burst Water Pipe, Flood
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - The Royal Oak City hall is reopening Thursday after being closed for a day due to a broken water pipe that flooded the first floor and basement.
City Manager Don Johnson said necessary repairs were made to the building's heating system after crews sopped up water that had flown from a broken radiator pipe in the city's assessing office.
"As far as we can tell it doesn't look like any records are damaged," Johnson told WWJ's Laura Bonnell. "There is water in some rooms where stuff is stored, but it's not that deep; you know, most things (are) up on shelves or in cabinets."
Johnson expects the cleanup will cost the city a couple thousand dollars.
"The first floor got it the worst. I think there was maybe an inch of water covering the floors here, in the hallways," he said. "But down in the storage areas the floors are just wet. There's probably no more than a quarter-inch."
City Hall hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m. to noon.
