Romulus Woman Faces Murder Charge In Hit-And-Run Of 8-Year-Old Boy

WESTLAND (AP) — Charges have been upgraded against a southeastern Michigan woman in a hit-and-run crash that killed an 8-year-old boy.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 39-year-old Kimberly Garrett is expected to be arraigned Monday on second-degree murder, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in death and other charges.

The boy was struck by a vehicle on June 20 while riding his bike in Westland, west of Detroit. Another motorist called 911 and followed the vehicle that struck the boy to a home in Romulus where Garrett was arrested.

The boy died four days later in an area hospital.

Garrett initially was charged Monday when the boy still was alive.

Court records did not list an attorney Friday for Garrett.
