Rochester Hills Man Facing Child Sex Charges After Undercover Internet Sting

ROMEO (WWJ) - A 42-year-old Rochester Hills man is facing several charges after investigators say he was caught trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a child over the internet.

Matthew Jaworski was arraigned Wednesday in the 42nd District Court of Romeo on three counts of child sexual abusive activity and one count of using a computer to commit a crime. Each of the four charges carries a potential 20-year prison sentence.

Police say their investigation of Jaworski began on Feb. 27 when detectives with the Macomb Area Computer Enforcement team responded to an online advertisement that was "indicative of child sexual abuse activity."

Undercover detectives initiated contact with Jaworski and through a series of e-mails and text messages, authorities say Jaworski arranged a sexual encounter with someone he thought was a 14-year-old child.

When Jaworski arrived at the agreed upon location in Washington Township on Tuesday expecting to perform a sex act on the teen, he was taken into custody.

Jaworski is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $200,000 cash or surety bond. He's due back in court on March 17.
