CBS DETROIT - A couple of days after reporting the Detroit Tigers have engaged in preliminary trade conversations about acquiring a starting pitcher, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports has added that the Tigers had a scout at the most recent start of Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cueto.

Cueto becomes a free agent after the season. He currently has a 2.85 ERA over 12 starts this year. An All-Star last season, Cueto finished second in Cy Young voting in 2014 with an ERA of 2.25. His 243 2/3 innings pitched and 242 strikes were both the best in the National League.

Over the past five seasons, Cueto has an ERA of 2.73 over 133 games. His record in that span is 65-32.

The current rotation of the Tigers consists of David Price, Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez, Alfredo Simon and Kyle Ryan. The last spot had belonged to Shane Greene, but the Tigers sent him down to Triple-A Toledo because of struggles in his recent outings.

The Tigers have a 33-30 record and are three games out of first place in the American League Central Division.
