Report: Jim Schwartz Out As Coordinator In Buffalo

CBS DETROIT - Just as he did last offseason, former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz will spend some time this offseason looking for a new job.

ESPN reports that Schwartz, who spent the 2014 season as the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, will leave Buffalo due to differences in defensive philosophy between him and incoming head coach Rex Ryan. The Bills hired Ryan to replace Doug Marrone, who opted out of his contract after Buffalo finished the season with a record of 9-7.

Finding another job should not be a problem for Schwartz, who has long been respected for his ability as a defensive coordinator.

This season Schwartz guided a unit that ranked fourth in the NFL in points allowed per game (18.1) and fourth in yards allowed per game (312.2).

One of Buffalo's wins came over Detroit at Ford Field. Several players carried Schwartz off the field after the victory, and they said Schwartz had talked during OTAs about wanting to make such an exit after beating his old team. As one would imagine, the image of Schwartz celebrating that game like he had just won the Super Bowl will long live in infamy in Detroit.
