CBS DETROIT - Former University of Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon has been named the CEO of Toys "R" Us, per the Wall Street Journal.
Brandon resigned his position at Michigan last year as football losses piled up and pressure mounted from upset fans. The Wolverines ultimately ended the season 5-7.
Brandon, formerly the CEO of Domino's Pizza, indicated he does not expect his lack of retail experience to be an issue.
"When I got to Domino's, I wasn't a pizza guy either," Brandon told the Wall Street Journal. "There is a huge advantage for a leader to come into a situation with a new set of eyes and challenge the status quo."
The Wall Street Journal writes that Brandon pioneered digital ordering at Dominos and expects his experience in bringing about that transition to translate to his new job as the top man at Toys "R" Us, which has struggled some as many shoppers spend online rather than in stores.
"Customers want it when they want it and how they want it," he said. "I've been through that transformation in one industry and think I could bring experience that could be helpful."
