Reminder: Years-Long I-75 Reconstruction Project In Oakland County Starts Monday
TROY (WWJ) - It's a construction alert drivers in Oakland County have been dreading.
A two-year, $90.8 million project to reconstruct pavement between Coolidge Highway and South Boulevard, replace bridges, and modernize the Square Lake Road interchange is starting on Monday.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on , Aug. 15, the right lane of southbound I-75 will be closed continuously from the Square Lake Road interchange to Coolidge Highway to prepare for a future traffic shift. Northbound I-75 will have intermittent single-lane closures from Coolidge Highway to South Boulevard.
In addition, single-lane closures will be in place on the northbound and southbound I-75 ramps to westbound Square Lake Road.
This configuration is expected to last into early September before another stage of the project is scheduled to begin.
When the work is complete in 2018, drivers entering northbound I-75 will be able to do so from the right lane of Square Lake Road, instead of the present day left lane, so traffic can merge more safely.
The construction is part of a 14-year, $1.3 billion project to rebuild an 18-mile stretch of I-75.
