ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) - When Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush spoke with media Thursday morning about how the team's voluntary workouts have gone, Bush said everyone is at the facility and working hard.
Everyone, he clarified when prompted, still does not include star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
"Suh, you know, I'm sure he's going through – from what I know, it's a contract thing, so that's the business side of stuff, and we all go through it, so everybody understands," Bush said. "Nobody's looking down on him. I'm sure as soon as he can be here, he'll be here."
Bush stopped short of stating with certainty that Suh was absent because of his contract situation.
"I don't know," Bush said. "Honestly I haven't spoken to him."
Suh's $22.4 million cap hit this season is the second-highest in the NFL. A free agent after this year, Suh recently fired one agent and hired another, and he and the Lions have spoken about working on a contract extension. It would surely be a monstrous deal given Suh's status as one of the best at his position.
Lions wide receiver Jeremy Ross told reporters Monday that Suh, a team captain, was not present at the first day of workouts. That revelation ignited a conversation among fans and media about what responsibility Suh has - both as a leader and as the highest-paid player on the team in 2014 - to be present at the team's workouts, particularly with a new coaching staff in charge.
