Red Wings Reach Deal With 1st-Round Pick Evgeny Svechnikov

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms with first-round draft pick Evgeny Svechnikov on a three-year entry-level contract.

The 18-year-old Svechnikov was taken by the Red Wings with the 19th pick in the June draft. He played for Detroit in a preseason game Sept. 22 at Chicago before returning to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Last season with Cape Breton, Svechnikov finished second among QMJHL rookies with 78 points. The Russian left wing had 32 goals and 46 assists in 55 games.

Svechnikov played three games in 2013-14 for Ak Bars Kazan in the Kontinental Hockey League.
