Prosecutor: Suspect In Gun Death Also Robbed Woman

DETROIT (AP) — Prosecutors say a 19-year-old man accused of accidentally killing a 16-year-old friend while playing with a stolen gun in Detroit also robbed a woman at gunpoint three days earlier.

Nineteen-year-old Dwayne Sharper Jr. was arraigned Monday on manslaughter, firearms and armed robbery charges. A judge ordered him jailed until a Jan. 7 hearing.

Authorities say that Sharper shot Bernard Walker in the head on Christmas in the basement of a home in the Virginia Park neighborhood near downtown Detroit. Walker died the next day.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says that Sharper also used a stolen gun to rob a woman in her driveway in the same neighborhood Dec. 22.

Defense lawyer William J. Winters III says he just got the case says his client "maintains his innocence."
