Police: Son Stabs Father To Death At Detroit-Area Hotel

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Police responding to a call for help at a Detroit-area hotel found a 66-year-old man had been stabbed to death, allegedly at the hands of his 27-year-old son.

Southfield Police Lt. Nick Loussia said the son dialed 911 around 11:20 a.m. Thursday and requested help after being involved in an altercation at the Quality Inn Hotel on Telegraph Road near Civic Center Drive.

When officers arrived, they first made contact with the son, who was carrying a hunting-style knife. Next, the officers found the older man's body in a room where he had been staying. At that point, the younger man was taken into custody.

Police say the older man was stabbed to death.

Loussia said both men live in Southfield, but declined to provide their names, pending notification of family members. The son is expected to be arraigned on murder charges.

"This was a tragic incident and we all need to monitor our family and friends for radical changes in their behavior," Chief Eric Hawkins said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and friends."
