Police Search For Home Invasion Suspect Targeting Women

REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Residents in Redford Township are being urged to keep their windows and doors locked as police search for a home invasion suspect who appears to be targeting women.

The first incident happened around 3:20 a.m. Friday at a home in the 14000 block of San Jose, in a neighborhood near Inkster Road and I-96.

A woman in her 20s told police she was sleeping on the couch and awoke to find an unknown man inside her home. The man allegedly made sexual advances toward the woman but fled the scene when he realized the victim was not home alone. Police say it appears the man entered the home through an unlocked door.

The second incident occurred less than two hours later, around 4:55 a.m., at a home in the 15500 block of Lexington, in a neighborhood near Beech Daly and 5 Mile roads.

A woman in her 60s told police she was sleeping when a noise outside her house woke her up. The woman said she was near an open window when she heard an unknown man make a sexual remark towards her. The man then allegedly reached through the open window and grabbed the woman by the arm before fleeing the area.

Police responded to both homes with a K9 unit, but were unable to track the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 5'7" tall and 150 to 180 pounds, wearing a striped polo-style shirt and mesh shorts.

Anyone who might have information on the suspect or either incident is urged to contact police at 313-387-2551 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
