Police: Nude Man Breaks Into Oakland County Home, Causes More Than $50,000 In Damage
BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - A man who broke into a relative's home in Bloomfield Township caused $50,000 in damage -- and he did it all in the nude.
The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, when police received a call about a possible home invasion in the 4000 block of Echo, in a neighborhood along Long Lake Road just west of Telegraph Road.
Officers arrived at the scene and found 53-year-old Daniel Elliot inside the home, completely nude, moving furniture around. Police say it appeared that Elliot had been inside the home for a significant amount of time, and he caused extensive damage.
Furniture was turned over and broken, china was smashed, doors were hanging off the hinges and several faucets were broken, causing the rooms to flood. A rough estimate of the damage is over $50,000.
Police say that Elliot, a former family member of the homeowner, broke into the home while the family was on vacation. Officers at the scene said they couldn't figure out why he didn't have any clothes on.
Elliot, who was arrested without further incident, remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail. He was arraigned Wednesday on charges of second-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of property. Bond was set at $50,000.
