Police: Mom Finds Baby Dead 13 Hours After Nap
PONTIAC (WWJ) - Police in Pontiac are investigating after a 1-year-old baby was found dead in her crib.
Oakland County sheriff's deputies responded around 11 a.m. Monday to an apartment on Ridgemont, near Perry and Joslyn, after getting a call about a baby who wasn't breathing.
When deputies arrived at the apartment, the baby was lying on the floor of an upstairs bedroom. Paramedics attempted CPR with negative results. They rushed the little girl to the hospital, but doctors couldn't revive her and she was pronounced dead.
The child's mother told police that she put the baby in her crib around 10 p.m. Sunday. The next morning, 13 hours later, police say "the mother was concerned that it was too long for her to be asleep" so she checked on the baby, found that she wasn't breathing and called 911. Before paramedics arrived on the scene, the mother took the baby out of the crib to perform CPR, according to police.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
The incident remains under investigation.
