Police: Man With 6 OWI Convictions Arrested For Drunk Driving

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a 47-year-old Sterling Heights man accused of drunk driving has six prior convictions for operating while intoxicated.

Brad Haynie was arraigned on several charges Wednesday, including operating while intoxicated -- third offense, arising from his arrest a day earlier, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

Police said the situation unfolded around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when deputies were dispatched to McLaren-Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens at the request of security personnel who were having problems with an "intoxicated" man, Haynie, creating a disturbance.

Security escorted Haynie from the building, police said, where he got into his vehicle and drove away from hospital property.

Deputies located Haynie near the hospital on Harrington Street and initiated a traffic stop after his vehicle "veered into a curb." After performing some field sobriety tests, deputies arrested Haynie for operating while intoxicated.

Following his arrest, police learned that Haynie has six previous convictions for operating while intoxicated, and that his driving privilege was suspended and revoked.

Haynie refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test, police said, so he was taken back to the hospital where his blood was drawn pursuant to a search warrant.

In addition to the OWI charge, Haynie was charged with driving while license is suspended -- second offense and disorderly person, for his behavior in the hospital. He was given a $15,000 bond and was ordered to wear a remote alcohol monitor tether. He's due back in court June 18.
