Police Issue 1,343 Tickets During Aggressive Driving Crackdown On M-59

SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a two month-long crackdown on aggressive driving in Macomb County resulted in a total of 1,343 traffic citations being issued to law-bending motorists.

The "pro-active enforcement program" targeted drivers on M-59 and Hall Road during the months of October and November, and included police officers from Shelby Township, Utica, Sterling Heights, Clinton Township, Chesterfield Township and the Macomb County Sheriff's Department.

Over the time period, the involved agencies wrote a combined total of 1,343 tickets. The vast majority of citations were for speed -- one driver was busted for going 101 miles per hour in a 45 MPH zone.

Police say the goal of the operation was to reduce crashes and remind drivers to slow down before Holiday traffic rush.

"Our department will continue to increase enforcement efforts during this busy holiday time and we remind everyone to arrive alive and be patient in traffic," Shelby Township police said in a statement.

Motorists can report dangerous or aggressive drivers to police by calling 586-731-2121.
