Police In Grand Rapids To Receive Training In Hidden Biases
GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -- Police in Grand Rapids are going to take part in training aimed at avoiding hidden biases.
The Grand Rapids City Commission has authorized spending up to $46,500 on implicit-bias training, to look at where they may have some unconscious biases. The training is part of City Manager Greg Sundstrom's 12-point plan to improve community and police relations.
The training is expected to begin by next month and will continue as part of police department's regular training regimen. Training is expected to eventually be offered to all employees.
Grand Rapids also plans to study traffic stops to see if police officers pull over black motorists more than white motorists.
