Police ID Worker Killed In Lapeer Shop Explosion
LAPEER (WWJ/AP) - Authorities in Lapeer have identified a 34-year-old man who died in an explosion at a machine shop that also injured three other people.
The blast happened at around 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lapeer Industriesm, located at 400 McCormick Drive. The Flint Journal reports that the blast killed Bradley Davis of Millington. He'd worked at the plant for about five years.
"He was a good man," Nicole Davis told the Journal of her husband. "He died doing what he was good at: providing for his family."
The names and conditions of the injured people weren't available Wednesday.
Police Chief Todd Alexander says it appears that a cylindrical tank containing an unknown type of gas became over-pressurized and exploded. The explosion reportedly occurred behind the business.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration says it's investigating the accident, but could not provide any further details at this point.
An online fundraiser has been organized to help raise money for the family and funeral expenses. [Get more information HERE[.
