Police: Driver Who Refused To Pull Over Wanted To 'Finish His Marijuana Joint' First

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- Police were led on a chase through Macomb County on Sunday because a driver refused to pull over for a strange reason.

Michigan State Police say that officers attempted to pull over a Lincoln Continental in Washington Township on southbound M-53 near 30 Mile Road for having an improper license plate on Sunday evening.

The driver refused to stop and motioned as if he was going to pull over with a cell phone in his hand. He then raised his finger, signaling that he would pull over momentarily.

Police boxed the car in on the side M-53 shoulder where the man was arrested without incident. During his arrest, the 36-year-old man from Clinton Township said that he didn't stop because he wanted to call his family and finish his marijuana joint.

The driver said that he had a warrant out of Florida, that there was marijuana in the vehicle and that he knew he was going to jail. Open alcohol and marijuana was found in his vehicle.

The driver was suspended and also processed for operating under the influence. He was held at the Macomb County Jail pending prosecutors review and possible extradition to Florida.
