Police: Driver Arrested With Loaded Gun, Drugs Was Going Over 70 MPH In 50 MPH Zone
MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities say a 20-year-old woman who was stopped for driving more than 20 miles per hour over the speed limit was arrested after police found a loaded handgun and marijuana in her possession.
Madison Kassidy Agnew, of Clinton Township, was charged Thursday with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana.
Police say Agnew was stopped by police around 3:40 a.m. Thursday on Hall Road in Macomb Township after a Sheriff's deputy on patrol clocked her 2014 Jeep Patriot travelling over 70 mph in a posted 50 mph speed zone.
While talking to Agnew, the deputy "noticed the smell of burnt marijuana" and asked the woman to step out of the car. At that point, she was placed under arrest.
Deputies subsequently searched the Jeep and located a loaded .45 ACP semi-automatic handgun. Police say the weapon was wrapped in a white plastic bag and wedged between the driver's seat and the console. Deputies also located trace amounts of raw marijuana.
When deputies questioned Agnew about the handgun, she allegedly stated that it belonged to her boyfriend. However, when deputies ran the gun's serial number through an informational database, they learned that the gun was registered to an unrelated individual who resides in Garden City.
The Garden City Police Department has been contacted for further investigation into the ownership of the pistol.
Agnew was released from custody after posting a $10,000 personal bond and is due back in court on May 5.
