Police: 2 Dead After Driving Into Guardrail, Launching Car Off Exit Ramp; Alcohol Believed To Be Involved

CANTON (WWJ) -- Two men are dead following a high-speed crash on a metro Detroit freeway on Saturday afternoon.

Michigan State Police say the driver of a Mustang lost control while entering the southbound I-275 ramp to Michigan Avenue in Canton at a high rate of speed. After losing control, the car struck a guardrail and was launched into the air.

The car traveled down a hill, hitting a cement bike trail. Both the driver and a male passenger were pronounced dead on the scene.

There were golf clubs and other golf gear which indicated the men may have just come from a day of golf. Both men were believed to be in their 60s.

Initial investigations say alcohol may have been a contributing factor. The names of the driver and passenger will not be released until official notification has been made to the families of the victims.
