Pittsburgh Penguins' Defenseman Ian Cole To Bring The Stanley Cup To Ann Arbor On Friday, August 12

Ann Arbor will be getting a visit from the Stanley Cup on Friday, August 12.

Ian Cole, a defenseman for the 2016 Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, will be bringing the oldest and most famous professional sports trophy in North America for a celebration that will include a series of stops around his hometown.

The Stanley Cup will be on public display for personal pictures at Arbor Cube Ice Arena on Friday, August 12 between 2-4 p.m. In addition to pictures with the Cup, Ian will be available to meet with fans, sign autographs and maybe even give out a few hockey tips.

The address for Arbor Cube Ice Arena is: 2121 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI, 48103.

When the Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks to win the championship on June 12, Cole became the first native Ann Arborite to win Lord Stanley's Cup. Cole suited up for all 24 playoff games for Pittsburgh in 2016, scoring the opening goal in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, leading the way to a win that staked Pittsburgh to a commanding lead in the series.

Previously, Cole was the first Ann Arborite drafted in the first round of the NHL Draft when the St. Louis Blues selected him 18th overall in 2007.

Cole grew up playing for the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association, Compuware AAA, Victory Honda Midget Major, the U.S. National Development Team, and the University of Notre Dame. This upcoming season will be his third with the Penguins following a four-and-a-half year run with the Blues to begin his career.
