Pedestrians Killed In Detroit Hit-And-Run Crash Identified
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Authorities have identified two pedestrians who were killed by a hit-and-run driver while trying to cross a street on Detroit's west side.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said the woman was 44-year-old Kathy Lewis. The office earlier identified the man as 56-year-old Wayne Sanders.
Authorities say the couple was crossing the intersection of West McNichols and Meyers roads around 10:30 p.m. Friday when a car struck them and drove off.
The only description of the vehicle is that it's a light-colored car, possibly a Ford Taurus or Pontiac Grand Prix. Police do not yet have a description of the driver.
Shortly after the accident, police spokesman Rodney Johnson disputed various local reports that say the driver intentionally targeted the victims.
"We don't have any information that this car purposely tried to run down or hit these individuals," he said.
