Pedestrian Killed In Crash On Detroit's East Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police say a pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle on the city's east side.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on Hayes Street and Glenfield Avenue, just north of East Outer Drive.

According to police, a 59-year-old woman was driving southbound on Hayes when she struck a 57-year-old man who was "walking in the middle" of the street.

The man was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately released.

The woman stopped at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.

Hayes Street will remain closed between Glenfield Avenue and Kelly Road as police complete an accident investigation.
