Pedestrian Killed By Truck While Trying To Retrieve Hat Blown Off By Wind

WARREN (WWJ) - Authorities say a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in Warren while reportedly trying to retrieve her hat, which had blown into the road.

The accident happened Thursday night along 9 Mile Road near Campbell, just west of Hoover Road.

The victim, a 58-year old woman, was hit by a pickup truck as she tried to walk across 9 Mile Road. Witnesses say the woman was struck while trying to retrieve her hat, which had been blown off her head by the wind. A weather advisory was in effect at the time, and wind gusts of up to 50 mph were reported.

Police say the woman was not crossing at a crosswalk. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not released.

The truck driver, who was uninjured, stopped at the scene and was questioned by police.
