Pastor: Lightning May Have Sparked Church Fire

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) - A pastor says lightning amid severe thunderstorms that hit Michigan's Lower Peninsula may have sparked a fire at a suburban Detroit church.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens and The Detroit News report the fire at New Life Church of God in Christ happened Sunday evening. No injuries were reported.

The roof of the 94-year-old church was destroyed and the interior was badly damaged.

Pastor Darrell Moore says lightning may have caused the fire. No one was in the building at the time.

Fire department Captain Todd Trudeau says, however, that the cause of the fire was under investigation. He says crews responding to reports of downed wire in the neighborhood after the storms hit saw smoke coming from the church. Flames damaged the exterior of a nearby house.
