Off-Duty Officer Allegedly Shoots 2 People During Altercation At Kevin Hart Show In Detroit
AUBURN HILLS (WWJ/AP) -- Police say two people attacked an off-duty Detroit police officer who was changing a flat tire outside a Kevin Hart comedy show at The Palace of Auburn Hills, and he shot and wounded two people.
Authorities say the 26-year-old officer, a 32-year-old Detroit man and a 31-year-old Harper Woods woman were taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Auburn Hills Police Lt. Jill McDonnell said the officer was changing a tire on his vehicle when two people tried to park next to him.
"There was a verbal altercation that turned physical between the person changing the tire and the people in the vehicle that was backing in," McDonnell said. "That's when the shots were fired, hitting the 32-year-old man from Detroit and a 31-year-old woman from Harper Woods."
Authorities say the officer sustained head injuries. A regional police team is investigating the attack, and Detroit police say they're also conducting an internal probe
"The case is under investigation and once our investigation is complete we will present our findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor's office," McDonnell said.
The show itself won rave reviews on Twitter, where dozens of people thanked Hart for blockbuster laughs.
The star himself did not weigh in on the reported incident.
