Obama Nominates U-M Professor Kathryn Dominguez To Federal Reserve Board
WASHINGTON (WWJ/AP) - President Barack Obama is nominating economist Kathryn Dominguez to serve on the Federal Reserve's board of governors.
"Dr. Dominguez has the proven experience, judgment, and deep knowledge of the financial system, monetary policy and international capital markets to serve at the Federal Reserve during this important time for our economy," the president said, in a statement. "She brings decades of leadership and expertise from various roles, particularly from her years as a leading economist and academic."
The White House says Dominguez's expertise will be particularly important as the Fed considers how international financial conditions interact with U.S. monetary policy and banking regulations.
Dominguez is currently a Professor of Public Policy and Economics at the University of Michigan and Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, according to her profile on the U-M website. Her research interests include topics in international financial markets and macroeconomics and she has written numerous articles and a book on foreign exchange rate behavior.
She's a graduate of Vassar College and holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University.
Dominguez must be confirmed by the Senate to serve her 14-year term on the board of governors.
