Authorities find body of missing boater in Michigan's Sylvan Lake

UPDATE: An 84-year-old Michigan man drowned in Oakland County over the weekend, marking the county's 11th drowning in 2024. 

Louis William Petro, of Sylvan Lake, was found at 10 p.m. Friday after his unattended boat was found drifting hours earlier, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. 

(CBS DETROIT) - The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says the body of a missing boater was found 200 feet offshore Friday in Sylvan Lake.

Authorities put a notice about the search on social media after receiving numerous inquiries about the large presence, including drones, a helicopter, boats and divers involved in the search.

The sheriff's office did not release any additional information at this time and says more information will be released on Saturday.
