Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy Helps Revive Freezing Dog Found In Creek Bed

ORION TWP. (WWJ/AP) - A sheriff's deputy used chest compressions and warm blankets to help revive a cold, lost dog that was found in a creek bed in metro Detroit.

The Oakland County sheriff's department got a call late Friday from resident saying he could hear an animal in distress near his home.

With help from the caller, deputies found a small dog stuck in a creek bed in Orion Township with signs of hypothermia. The department says the dog appeared to be lifeless after being removed from the creek.

"A deputy performed lifesaving techniques (chest compressions along with warm blankets from the caller) and were able to revive the dog," police said in a statement.

Deputies then contacted the dog's owner, whose information was on his tag. The owners told police that the 15-year-old dog, named Rocky, had been missing for 12 hours.

Rocky was returned to his owners and taken to a veterinarian for treatment. He is now recovering at home.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures were mostly in the 30s Friday.
