No New Trial For Woman In '06 Double Murder In Macomb County

NEW BALTIMORE, Mich. (AP) - A federal appeals court has reversed a decision that had set aside the murder convictions of a young woman who was charged with killing a Macomb County man and his pregnant wife in 2006.

Samantha Bachynski, who was 19 at the time, claimed her rights were violated during an interview with New Baltimore police. But the appeals court found no errors Wednesday and said the evidence was "overwhelming."

The court overturned a decision by Detroit federal Judge David Lawson.
Bachynski was convicted of participating in the murders of Scott and Melissa Berels of New Baltimore. Her boyfriend and co-defendant, Patrick Selepak, pleaded guilty.

Bachynski pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in the death of a third person six days later in Genesee County. She and Selepak are serving life sentences.
