No Charges Planned After Death Of 4-Year-Old Girl In School Gym

GWINN, Mich. (AP) - No charges are planned after the death of a 4-year-old girl who was struck and killed when a partition being installed in an Upper Peninsula school gym fell on her.

Forsyth Township police Chief Gordon Warchock tells The Mining Journal of Marquette that a wooden structure designed to hold safety mats at the end of the basketball court and weighing about 325 pounds fell on Amarah Filizetti at Gwinn High School on Sept. 3.

WLUC-TV reports the Marquette County prosecutor's reviewed the results of the investigation.

Warchock says "a very unfortunate string of events ... placed Amarah in harm's way." He declined to further elaborate on the circumstances.

Amarah was taken to a hospital and in Marquette before being flown to another hospital in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, where she died.
