Nick Lidstrom Will Never Forget Epic Stanley Cup Celebrations In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) Former Red Wings' Nick Lidstrom is in town as the team prepares to bestow him with a big honor, retiring his jersey to the rafters of the Joe.

WWJ's Sandra McNeill caught up with the former Captain, who said he doesn't regret retirement. He added he does miss the locker room, but he's enjoying having weekends off for the first time in his life.

"I never had any urge to get back to being on the ice and playing in a game," he said.

What will he remember most about his years in Detroit?

"The celebrations in this locker room after winning the first Stanley Cup, the celebration in here with all the family and friends, being packed in here," he said, describing his favorite moments.

He also relishes the post-Stanley Cup parades he experienced, saying "getting a chance to see the fans up close" and feeling how happy they were to celebrate the Cup was something he'll never forget.

What's his advice for players coming up in the game?

"Enjoy the moment, enjoy the NHL, enjoy being a Red Wing, and take it all in," Lidstrom said.
