Netherlands King, Queen Plan Visit To Michigan
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - The king of the Netherlands and his wife are planning a visit to the U.S. this spring, with stops in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Chicago and the nation's capital.
The Dutch Embassy announced Tuesday that King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will make the trip June 1-3.
It's the king's first official visit to the U.S. as monarch. He became king in 2013 when he succeeded his mother, Queen Beatrix.
The embassy says it will release more details on the visit shortly. West Michigan has a large Dutch population.
Dutch Ambassador Rudolf Bekink says the visit "underscores the friendship" between the two countries.
The embassy says that the Netherlands is among the top five investors in the U.S. economy and says the Dutch-American relationship supports 685,000 U.S. jobs.
