Netflix Offers New Years Eve Countdown For Children
By Edward Cardenas
SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Parents can celebrate the traditional New Years Eve countdown with their children at anytime during the evening with Netflix.
The Internet television network is offering subscribers a three-minute, high-energy, music-filled event hosted by the cartoon character King Julien, the host of "All Hail King Julien."
"So move over, Ryan Seacrest, I've got my very own on-demand countdown party on Netflix," the fictional character stated in a press release.
According to a survey conducted for Netflix, more than a third of parents in the United States admitted to starting the party early to fool their kids into thinking its midnight. Parents cited their kids, or their own bedtime, as the reason for the early countdown.
The study also found that 36 percent of parents said they would search for a countdown in a different time zone in order to celebrate earlier, and 22 percent would stage a countdown of their own.
The countdown is available in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, UK, Ireland, the Nordics, the Netherlands and France at Netflix.com/KingJulien.
