Neighbors Irate After Woman Spray Paints 'Jesus Raped Me' On The Front Of Her Own House
GARDEN CITY (WWJ) -- One neighborhood in Wayne County's Garden City is in the spotlight after some self-inflicted graffiti came to light.
Gina Fournier says that she painted the words "Jesus Raped Me' on the side of her home on Deering St. as "a metaphor." Fournier, 52, told FOX 2 that she is an English professor and a published author, and used the metaphor as a plea for help.
Also scribed on the front of the home are the words "End OCC Witchhunt" and "Please Help."
Fournier was reportedly an employee of Oakland Community College until 2013.
Despite the outcry from neighbors, officials in Garden City have their hands tied. Police say spray painting one's own home is not a crime and protected by the First Amendment. It is not considered vandalism.
"We have requested our prosecutor issue a bench warrant for maintaining a public nuisance because graffiti is a public nuisance," Garden City Department of Public Services Director Kevin Roney told the Detroit Free Press. "Obviously, we aren't going to tolerate this."
According to MLive, Fournier is facing a Sept. 16 eviction hearing.
