National Designation Given To Huron River Water Trail
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The 104-mile Huron River Water Trail has been designated as the 18th in the National Water Trails System.
The Huron River Watershed Council says the designation was made by Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.
Council Deputy Director Elizabeth Riggs says the organization's vision of the Huron River includes it being a focal point for recreation, while boosting local economies.
The inland paddling trail connects people to the river's natural environment, history and communities it touches. Milford, Dexter, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Flat Rock are designated as Trail Towns.
The council says the water trail designation is expected to bring national visibility to the Huron and could result in positive economic impact from increased tourism.
