Naked Man In Cowboy Hat Strolls Down I-75 During Snowstorm
AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - Second to the significant snowfall, it's the talk of metro Detroit.
A birthday suit and a cowboy hat were all a 53-year old Bloomfield Hills man was wearing when he was spotted strolling along a snow-covered I-75 through Auburn Hills on Sunday.
According to Auburn Hills Police Lt. Carimir Miarka, after the man's vehicle slid off the highway, he hopped out and began walking against traffic while shedding his clothes.
Miarka said the man appeared confused.
"What the officers did is they recognized right away there was something off with this individual. He was somewhat delusional, so they really responded by keeping a calm tone with him," Miarka said.
The man was taken to a local hospital for a mental examination, and no citations were issued.
"What we wanted to do is just see what is going on with this individual," Miarka said. "I believe that we can help this individual more by doing something like a diversion program where we get him the treatment he needs, rather than charging him with a crime."
Many have taken to social media to sound off about the sighting; and an eyewitness — YouTuber Francis Gojcaj — posted a video. [NOTE: While it's shot from behind, the video does show the man's nude backside. See it HERE].
Miarka told WWJ he did watch the YouTube clip.
"It was a little different, but in my 24 years of doing this, no — I haven't seen anything quite like this," he said. "This was a unique one, but in the end he's getting the help he needs and no one was hurt in this whole incident."
The man's name has not been released.
