Toledo Mud Hens Pitchers Throw Combined No-Hitter
TOLEDO (CBS Detroit) -- Toledo Mud Hens pitchers finished with a combined no-hitter in a 5-0 win over the Charlotte Knights on Saturday.
Starter Warwick Saupold pitched the first five innings, striking out three batters and giving up only one base runner on a hit-by-pitch. Preston Guilmet, Logan Kensing and Bobby Parnell finished off the final four innings.
It was the first no-hitter thrown by the Mud Hens since Jose Lima pitched one in 1994, according to the team.
Kensing was sent to Toledo by the Tigers this week to make room for the now-healthy Blaine Hardy.
Parnell, who now boasts a 1.80 ERA, pitched for the Tigers in Spring Training while trying to make a return to the MLB after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2014.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Cameron Maybin continued his rehab stint by going 0-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Scheduled starter Matt Boyd was scratched before the game.
