MSU Announces Partnership With Detroit Public Television
DETROIT (AP) - The president of Michigan State University has announced a partnership with Detroit Public Television that is expected to provide more programming for children and families.
Lou Anna Simon says Monday that the collaboration gives the East Lansing school "the opportunity to become a national model in providing quality educational content in public television."
The school says that more than 500,000 children, parents and caregivers already connect to Detroit Public Television's family programming.
The partnership also means Michigan State will not participate in an FCC broadcast incentive auction.
The school says it will retain WKAR-TV's broadcast spectrum and that the station will be a key component of the collaboration with Detroit Public Television.
WKAR-TV will remain a full PBS partner, but original programming options will be revised and expanded.
