Runaway Michigan Teen Found At Iowa State University

SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WWJ) - Michigan State Police say a teenager they described as endangered has been located.

Joy Martin, 16, was found on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa Monday evening "in good health," according to a media release.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that on Saturday, March 18, Martin had packed a bag and left her home in the Saugatuck area voluntarily — and was spotted with a stranger whom she met on the KIK messaging app.

KIK, which is popular among teens, allows users to remain anonymous; the app doesn't require users to register their phone number.

Police said arrangements were being made to reunite Martin with her family.

An investigation is ongoing.
