Movie Review: "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit"
DETROIT (WWJ) – First Alec Baldwin in the 1990 blockbuster "The Hunt for Red October," then Harrison Ford played CIA Analyst Jack Ryan in the 1992 hit film, "Patriot Games" and again in 1994's "Clear and Present Danger." Ben Affleck took on the role in 2002 in "The Sum of All Fears." Now, Chris Pine takes on the role in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," another sure-to-be blockbuster film.
In this latest installment, when Ryan uncovers a sophisticated financial-based terrorist plot designed to bring down the United States, he heads to Moscow to meet face-to-face with Cherevin. But when Ryan is outsmarted by Cherevin, he and his fellow CIA operatives have no choice but to return to the United States to try and stop the plot.
"Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" is well written (hats off to screenwriters Adam Cozad and David Koepp who co-wrote the script based on characters created by Tom Clancy) and has loads of action from start to finish. It'll grab your attention from the very beginning and keep you guessing til the end. That means, of course, some plot twists that you won't see coming.
After this latest film in the hit franchise, I'm hoping this is not the last we'll see of Jack Ryan.
"Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" also stars Kevin Costner as CIA handler Thomas Harper; Keira Knightley as Cathy, Ryan's fiancé; and Kenneth Branagh, who does double duty as the film's director, stars as Russian oligarch Viktor Cherevin.
