Motorcyclist Killed In Deadly Rear-end Collision With Semi
DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police say the man who was killed in an overnight crash on the Southfield Freeway was a 34-year old Detroit resident.
According to witnesses, two motorcycles were headed southbound on M-39, just after 2:30 a.m. Monday, when one of them lost control, slamming into a semi truck.
WWJ's Ron Dewey reported that the Medical Examiner's office was on the scene along with Michigan State Police and postal investigators reconstructing the events that led up to the crash.
Because of the investigation, the southbound side of the Southfield Freeway at Fenkell/Grand River was closed and traffic was diverted onto the service drive. The freeway was closed for about three hours, opening at around 5:30 a.m.
The victim was wearing a helmet. his name was not immediately released. Police said it's not yet clear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
