Mother's Day Flower Sale In Holly Supports A Great Cause
HOLLY (WWJ) - A Detroit-area treatment center dedicated to helping people recover from mental illness is hosting its annual flower sale just in time for Mother's Day.
WWJ Health Reporter Sean Lee says almost any mother can put herself in Rosemary Kelly's place
When doctors diagnosed her son John with schizophrenia in the late 1980s, Rosemary and husband Dan weren't satisfied with the existing options for treatment.
"There just wasn't any rehabilitation for mentally ill people," Kelly said.
So in 1992, the Kellys opened Rose Hill Treatment Center in Holly: a residential facility that's helped hundred of people get better and get back to their lives.
Part of their residential therapy includes growing thousands of beautiful plants and flowers that fill the center's greenhouse.
"And we give them self-confidence and we give them hope, and we tell them how good they are — because they are good people," she said.
Rose Hill's annual flower sale, which helps raise money for the center's programs, happens Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes a family-friendly open house on the grounds.
Rose Hill Center is located at 5130 Rose Hill Blvd., Holly, MI 48442. Call 248-634-5530 for more information or check out the website HERE.
