Mother Charged With Murder After Son, 2, Dies In Detroit
DETROIT (AP) — Authorities say a Detroit woman has been charged with murder in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 26-year-old Priyanka Chakraborty is believed to have choked her son to death. Chakraborty was charged Monday with first-degree murder, felony murder and first-degree child abuse. She faces life in prison without parole if convicted.
Court records didn't list a defense lawyer on record yet.
Authorities had said the child was found unresponsive at an east-side home and taken to a hospital. Cause of death was listed as asphyxia.
Chakraborty faces a Feb. 18 probable cause hearing and Feb. 24 preliminary examination.
