More Prison Time Ordered For Man In 'Dastardly' Child Porn Case

KALAMAZOO (AP) — A western Michigan man caught with a huge cache of child pornography has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, two months after a different judge in state court ordered a 40-year punishment for related crimes.

It guarantees that David Heinsen will die behind bars.

The 70-year-old Heinsen pleaded guilty in federal court to receiving child pornography. In Barry County, he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl with Down syndrome in 1989.

On Monday, federal Judge Paul Maloney in Kalamazoo said he hadn't seen a "more dastardly" case. He ordered Heinsen to pay $12,000 in restitution to the woman for counseling.

The investigation began in 2015 when Heinsen's wife called police. Her son had discovered child porn on a computer.
