Millions Of Apple Watches Ordered In Advance Of April Launch
By Edward Cardenas
SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Apple is reportedly preparing for a large launch of its new Watch and has ordered up to 6 million units of the smart wearable.
Reuters reports that Apple has asked its Asian suppliers to make between 5 and 6 million units of the smart watch for the first quarter of its release.
The Apple Watch, which was introduced in September, will give users access to services and information including calendar, maps, music, notifications, Apple Pay along with monitoring physical activity.
Consumers will be able to choose from three models of the device - Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition - that will offer a variety of features and amenities.
The Sport edition will reportedly be the entry-level watch and will offer a variety of bands. The Watch Edition is designed for high-end customers and will have 18-karat watch cases.
Apple did not comment on the report, nor has an exact release date been named. Multiple reports hint toward an April launch of the Apple Watch.
This is the first new product release for Apple since the iPad in 2010.
