Michigan State Student Convicted In Disturbance
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan State University student has been convicted for his role in a disturbance that took place after the school's football team beat Ohio State in the Big Ten championship game.
Jared Dubay was found guilty Wednesday of assembling to riot and remaining within 300 feet of a fire. Both charges are city ordinance violations punishable by up to 90 days in jail. The 23-year-old will be sentenced June 18.
Defense lawyer Andrew Abood tells the Lansing State Journal the case was "an absolute railroad." He plans to appeal.
The December disturbance resulted in nearly 60 fires and up to $10,000 in property damage.
MLive.com says two defendants are awaiting trial, and a number of others have agreed to plea deals or had some of their charges dismissed.
