Driver killed, Michigan State Police trooper injured in crash

(CBS DETROIT) - A Michigan State Police trooper was injured, and a 38-year-old woman died in a crash on I-75 Friday morning. 

The incident happened at 8:40 a.m. on northbound I-75 near Dix in Lincoln Park. 

A motor carrier officer had pulled a semi-truck over for a traffic violation, and while they were on the shoulder of I-75, the officer's vehicle was rear-ended, state police said during a press conference on Friday.

The officer was in the front seat of his patrol car with his seatbelt on when his vehicle at the time of the incident. When the officer was hit, he got pinned between his vehicle and the semi-truck in front of him, police said.

He had to be extricated from the patrol vehicle. 

The officer and the woman who hit his vehicle were taken to the hospital. The officer is being treated for injuries, and the driver who hit the officer has died.
